LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NIGERIA) – Evans Chebet of Kenya has won the Boston Marathon and successfully defended his title, with two-time Olympic champion Eliud Kipchoge finishing in sixth.
Compatriot Kipchoge finished 3:29 behind Chebet in second place after two hours, five minutes, and 54 seconds.
Meanwhile, in his previous 18 marathons, Kipchoge has only suffered defeat three times.
Hellen Obiri of Kenya won the women’s race in 2:21.38 while racing in just her second marathon.
Moreover, Chebet is the first male to win the Boston championship since 2008 and only the sixth man in history overall.
The wheelchair race for men was won by Swiss competitor Marcel Hugh, who also won the women’s competition, by home favorite Susannah Scaroni.
