LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Despite the fact that Luis Suarez is one of the top goal scorers of the modern period, even the best players occasionally make mistakes, especially when they are given a penalty shot.

The Uruguayan icon was making his league debut for the Brazilian team Gremio when he fluffed his lines from 12 yards for former clubs Liverpool and Barcelona.

Suarez has already scored for the Porto Alegre team, scoring a hat-trick in his first match, but he missed a penalty kick against Santos early in the second half, sending the ball sailing into the stands.

Suarez joined Gremio in December 2022 and is now 36 years old. Prior to joining Barcelona, he scored 198 goals for the Catalan club and 111 goals for Ajax in Europe.

The mysterious forward made a triumphant comeback to his native South America in 2022, where he assisted his old side Nacional in winning the league.

Joao Pedro scored what turned out to be the game’s lone goal on the final play of the first half to give Gremio a 1-0 victory. Suarez’s missed penalty in his most recent outing did not prove costly.
