ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- About nine victims abducted by bandits in Kucheri village of Tsafe Local Government Area of the state, have been rescued.
The Zamfara State Police Command made this known in a statement.
According to the Public Relations Officer of the Command, CSP Mohammed Shehu, the victims were rescued last Wednesday, by the police tactical operatives.
He said: “On 13th April, 2023, Police Tactical Operatives successfully rescued nine hostages – comprising seven females and two males who were abducted on 11th April, 2023 in Kucheri village in Tsafe local government area of the state.
“The rescue of the victims was sequel to credible information obtained from a good Samaritan which the police used and successfully rescued the victims hale and hearty.
“The victims were debriefed by the police detectives and thereafter reunited with their families and relations.”
The State Commissioner of Police, Kolo Yusuf, reassured the public of sustained onslaught against the activities of bandits and other criminal elements.
In a related development also, some bandits have allegedly received a N3 million levy they imposed on the people of Wanzamai village, where about 85 people, mostly women and children were kidnapped.
They however refused to release the victims after collecting the ransom.
An indigene of the area, Abubakar Na’Allah told Punch that the N3 million ransom demanded by the bandits was paid last Wednesday, by the Wanzamai community but instead of the bandits releasing the victims, they told the community that the N3million was for the purchase of the two motorcycles damaged by the military personnel.
“We have taken the N3 million to the bandits as earlier demanded but to our almost dismay, they collected the money and told us that it was for their two motorcycles that were damaged by the military personnel.
“We are now in a pathetic situation as we don’t know what to do next,” lamented Na’Allah.
