LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Frank Lampard has sent a clear message to Chelsea fans that his team will approach the Champions League clash with confidence and belief.
Lampard’s second tenure as manager of the club did not get off to the best possible start as Chelsea lost 1-0 to Wolves in the Premier League over the weekend while the opening leg of their Champions League quarterfinal matchup is against the formidable Real Madrid.
Prior to playing the 14-time European champions, Chelsea’s interim manager maintained his confidence and made it plain to the supporters that his team will enter the match with self-confidence.
According to the Daily Mail, Lampard said, “We have an opportunity against a fantastic team and we have to attempt to make the most of the opportunity.
“Go there with confidence, with a belief, because otherwise, as I said, if you’re worried, don’t come. I don’t think history has a big effect on it, but I understand the romantic idea. Wouldn’t we all love to see it again? We have to work towards that.”
The Blues have lost their previous four Premier League games and are trying to hold down the 11th spot in the standings.
Due to a string of disappointing results, the club fired Graham Potter and rehired Lampard as their interim coach for the remainder of the campaign.
Moreover, they are set to host Brighton on 15 April, following their Champions League match against Los Blancos on 12 April.
