LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)– Chairman of Maritime Workers Union in Bayelsa State, Ogoniba Ipigansi, has confirmed that a total of four lives were lost in the boat accident that occurred in the State.
Voiceofnaija.ng had earlier reported that a boat ‘MV Tari,’ conveying several passengers had capsized near Okoroma in the Nembe council area of Bayelsa.
According to Ipigansi, at the end of the search by divers on 8 April, the total death toll was four, Daily Trust gathered.
Reacting to the incident on 9 April, Governor Douye Diri directed the commissioner for health to ensure that the state government foots the bill of hospitalized victims.
Speaking during the Easter Sunday service at the King of Glory Chapel in Government House, Yenagoa, Diri sympathized with families of victims.
He directed the commissioner to refund whatever the survivors had spent on treatment and urged all relevant authorities in the transport sector, especially those in charge of the waterways, to ensure that all safety measures are duly complied with henceforth, to avert another accident.
