LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A Magistrates Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, has remanded a 21-year-old man for defiling and impregnating his 15-year-old girlfriend in Ilasamaja Area of the state.
The Suspect, Onyeka Ubaka was reportedly arrested and detained at the Gender Section of the Lagos State Police Command, following the complaint laid by the mother of the victim.
According to the Inspector in charge, Esther Igbineweka, the case was transferred from Ilasamaja police division by the mother on behalf of her daughter, the victim.
The victim’s mother, (name withheld) stated that the defendant had defiled her daughter in the guise of been in a relationship with her.
Igbineweka also revealed that during the cause of the investigation, it was discovered that the under-aged girl is 11 Months and four days pregnant.
The victim however admitted to being in a relationship with the 15 year old and was constantly having sexual intercourse with her as he believed it was a normal occurrence for individuals in a relationship.
Ubaka was arraigned before Magistrate E. Kubenje on 6 April, facing a one count charge bordering on defilement.
According to the prosecutor, DSP K. Ajayi, the offence committed is punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The charge reads: “That you, Onyeka Ubaka ‘m’ sometime in March 2023 at No. 16, Moshalashi Street, Ilasamaja Lagos, in the Lagos Magisterial District did defile one ‘F’ 15 years old by having sexual intercourse with her and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 137 of the criminal laws of Lagos, State of Nigeria“.
No plea was however taken for the charge.
Magistrate Kubenje ordered the remand of the defendant pending advice from the Director of Public Prosecution.
The case was adjourned till 3 May, 2023.
