LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Operatives of the Katsina State Police Command have engaged terrorists in a gun duel along Danmusa/Yantumaki Road in Danmusa Local Government Area of the state during which a terrorist was killed.
The Police command indicated that they recovered one AK-47 rifle with 22 rounds of 7.62MM live ammunition during the encounter on 27 March.
The command’s spokesman, SP Gambo Isah, who confirmed the development, said the terrorists blocked the road at a portion of Kesassa Village.
Isah said, “On March 27, 2023, at about 2.30 pm, a distress call was received that terrorists in their numbers, were shooting sporadically with AK-47 rifles, had blocked Danmusa–Yantumaki Road, Danmusa Local Government Area of Katsina State.
“Consequently, DPO Danmusa Division, led a team of policemen to the area, engaged the hoodlums in a gun duel and successfully repelled them.
“In the course of scanning the scene, one of the terrorists-bandits was neutralized and his dead body recovered. Additionally, one AK-47 rifle with twenty-two (22) rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition of AK-47 rifle was also recovered at the scene.”
According to Isah, many terrorists were believed to have been killed or escaped the scene with gunshot wounds.
“Search parties are combing the nearest bushes intending to arrest them and/or recover their dead bodies,” he added.
Isah urged residents of the surrounding communities to report any anyone found or observed with a suspected injury to the local police station.
He added, “The Command appreciates the efforts of the police for the display of uncommon courage, gallantry and professionalism in dealing with the hoodlums.”
