A fire outbreak at Balogun Market, a popular market on Lagos Island, has destroyed several properties on Tuesday morning, 28 March, 2023.
This is the seventh time the market has gone up in flames.
Daily Trust learnt that the fire affected a plaza in the market where Ladies’ shoes are sold.
Firefighters from two divisions of Lagos Fire Service had been deployed to the scene to put out the fire.
There have been many fire incidents in the market, with goods worth billions of naira lost in the process.
This comes exactly two months after fire destroyed a five-storey building at Gbajumo Street, Balogun on Lagos Island.
The fire reportedly started at midnight on Thursday, 26 January, 2023.
Margaret Adeseye, director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, said the fire started from the second floor of the building and spread to the other parts.
In October, 2022, a fire outbreak gutted a building at the same market.
A similar incident occurred at the market sometime in November 2019, 2020, 2021 and earlier this year.
And on each case, several goods worth millions of naira were destroyed.
