LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A Magistrates Court in Ado-Ekiti has ordered three suspects be remanded in a correctional centre for alleged kidnap and murder of an 82-year-old man, Michael Obasuyi.
The defendants, Sunday Obasuyi, 42; Akinniyi Ojo, 51, and Bobade Sunday, 51, residents of Agbado-Ekiti, in Gbonyin Local Council of Ekiti State, are facing a three-count charge of conspiracy, kidnapping and murder.
Police Prosecutor, Akinwale Oriyomi, stated that the defendants conspired and kidnapped the deceased on 1 February at about 11:00 a.m, in Agbado-Ekiti.
According to Oriyomi, the first defendant, Sunday Obasuyi, who was the deceased’s son, conspired with other defendants and sold the deceased for the sum of N1.8 million to the third defendant, Bobade Sunday, who is a herbalist.
Oriyomi stressed that the body of the deceased was later discovered weeks later when the police combed the bush, adding that the defendants had murdered Obasuyi and dug a shallow grave to bury him.
According to the prosecutor, the offences contravene Sections 280,279 and 234 of the Criminal Laws of Ekiti State, 2021.
Subsequently, the Chief Magistrate, Bankole Oluwasanmi ordered the remand of the defendants in Ado Ekiti Correctional Centre pending advice from the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP). The case was adjourned the case to 24 April 2023.
