Lt-General Oladipo Diya, a former Chief of General Staff (CGS) in Nigeria, has been confirmed dead. He died at 78.
Reports by The Nation confirmed that he died in the early hours of Sunday, according to a statement on behalf of the family by Barrister Prince Oyesinmilola Diya.
Diya, a former Ogun Military Administrator was born on 3 April, 1944, and joined the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Kaduna and fought during the Civil War.
He later attended the US Army School of Infantry, the Command and Staff College, Jaji (1980–1981) and the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies, Kuru.
He is more famous for being one of those sentenced to death by a Military tribunal before being pardoned by General Abdulsalami Abubakar after General Sani Abacha’s demise
