ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Nigerians have criticized Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, for saying that Mr. Peter Obi, the Labor Party presidential candidate, has set the Igbo political trajectory 24 years back.

The Senator had on Monday, in a tweet via his Twitter handle, said Obi had set the Igbo political trajectory 24 years back.

Nnamani, who lost the Enugu East Senatorial election to LP’s Kelvin Chukwu, accused Obi, the former Anambra State Governor, of spreading hate, vile and inciting comments before the elections.

He tweeted: “Peter ‘Gringory’ Obi has set the Igbo political trajectory 24 years back. He has become a twin Blight &Scourge on the land. His devious Opium served to Christians within sections of Nigeria and to Igbo domiciled in different sections of Nigeria is wicked and dangerous.

“These Igbo leaders, including “Asoebi” Governors, are quite unlike my ’99 class. They danced while Igbo land burnt. They lacked the ‘liver’ to condemn ‘sit at home’ nor condemn the killings. They cowered at Peter Gringory Obi’s message of hate, bile and incitement. They failed.”

However, some Nigerians on Twitter lashed out at Senator Nnamani for his comments, as some others said he should quietly accept his loss and move on.

@IamAsiwaju1 wrote: “I hope those who abused us will listen and learn also. I don’t know who can be more Igbo than you Sir. I only wish and pray an Igbo man will become Nigeria’s president in our time.”

@vic_okafor, while commenting on the post, also wrote: “You Sir, lost your reelection because your people lost confidence in you. I don’t see any correlation between your loss and @PeterObi. Please accept the defeat and channel your ideas to other parts of your endeavours. It’s a new era. Things will be done differently henceforth!”

In another comment obtained on the micro blogging app, @ogbonz said: “Sir, it seems you don’t realise that this kind of rhetoric does not work anymore ….You are engaging a different generation. This is not 1999.”

@christo02463786 also spared a thought on the subject topic, stating: “Sir, your personality as an Igbo man connotes more than what I see you do now. Picking on Obi is quite unfortunate. You may want to do that to market yourself to Asiwaju. Good. As you have the right of speech, remember, Igbos have the right to live and exist in Nigeria” just as @sirjaay wrote: “You didn’t lose because of Peter Obi. The poor performance of PDP in Enugu set the stage for this loss. I voted for you in previous elections but decided I wouldn’t this time, even before the PO wave reached its crescendo. I think you should accept the loss quietly and move on.”

@scofield536 also posited that: “I Have so much respect for you, but I wouldn’t ignore or stand with you in this your opinion, the youth chose Peter obi to represent them because his message was a message of hope not hate. Am shocked with your verbal utterances against Peter obi, you are the one inciting hate.”

@stanley38706947 who was surprised at the former Governor’s comment, said: “With all due respect Sir, I cherish you so much because you worked when you were the governor of Enugu state, but you know the truth about the presidential election that @PeterObi won the election and it was rigged in Favour of APC. I am surprised you are saying this.”

@princess_amaaca simply wrote: “Now you have lost to LP. Why are you angry with @PeterObi I thought you said nobody can remove you from that seat. Obi is our choice.”
