LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- A Magistrate’s Court Sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, has arraigned one Anthony Okafor for allegedly stealing the sum of N7,900,000 from his employer’s company in Ojodu Berger area of the State.
Okafor, who reportedly stole the whooping sum from the company identified as Chemarome West African Limited Ltd, where he works as a sales manager, appeared before Magistrate Whenu on 20 March.
According to the prosecutor, the offence committed is punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The charge against the accused reads: “That you, Anthony Okafor, in the month of November, 2022 to the moth of march 2023 at No. 2B, Babatunde Ladiga Street, Omole Phase 1, Ojodu Berge, Lagos in the Ikeja Magisterial District did unlawfully Steal the sum of N7,900,000.00 (Seven Million Nine Hundred Thousand Naira) Property of Chemarome West African Ltd and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.”
The Defendant pleaded not guilty to the charge was read out to him.
The Prosecutor, Inspector Segun representing Inspector John Christopher, asked the court for a trial date to enable the prosecution call witnesses and tender relevant documents to prove the case against the Defendant.
The Defense Counsel, Mrs. Idowu Okuwane, pleaded with the Magistrate to bring the case on liberal terms and consider the defendant innocent until there are relevant facts and documents to prove the case against him.
The Magistrate, Mrs. Whenu, granted the accused bail in the sum of N500,000 and two sureties in like sum and adjourned the case till 20 April,2023.
