ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Kano State residents on Monday, defiled the curfew imposed by the state government to celebrate the victory of the candidate of New Nigeria Peoples’ Party (NNPP), Yusuf Abba.
Abba emerged winner of the Saturday’s governorship election in the State after an announcement by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
In a video obtained on social media, the residents were seen in large number jubilating the emergence of Abba, despite the imposed curfew.
Voiceofnaija.ng reports that Kano State government had imposed a dusk-to-dawn curfew in the State with a view to avoiding a breakdown of law and order.
The curfew became necessary following tensions generated from collation of results of the Governorship and House of Assembly elections in the state.
According to Kano State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Mallam Muhammad Garba, the decision was “to prevent hoodlums from causing chaos in the already tense situation.”
In the results declared by the Returning Officer in the State, Professor Ahmed Ibrahim, the NNPP candidate polled 1,019,602 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nasiru Gawuna of All Progressives’ Congress, who polled 890,705 votes.
