Guber Poll: INEC Confirms Militants’ Attack On Staff

ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed the attack on its adhoc staff, Miss Glory Effiom Essien.

Miss Essien, who was hit by a bullet from suspected militants, is now recuperating at University of Calabar Teaching Hospital.

Confirming the incident, the Resident Electoral Commissioner in Cross River State, Professor Gabriel Yomere, said she was reportedly shot from behind whilst inside a speed boat traveling to Bakassi communities for electoral duties.

The REC who expressed worry and anger over the shooting of the young woman, however, said he was happy that the bullet did not affect the victim’s spinal cord.

“The victim is responding to medical attention at the University of Calabar, UCTH.”

An eye witness said: “The stray bullet hit her while she was in a speed boat heading towards Bakassi communities for governorship and House of Assembly Elections. She had slumped before being rushed to a hospital.

“She was hit from behind inside the speed boat she boarded. she became unconscious.”
