Kogi Polytechnic Dismisses Four Lecturers For Gross Misconduct, Fraud, Sexual Harassment, Among Others

LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Management of Kogi State Polytechnic have announced the dismissal of four Lecturers for alleged gross misconduct including sexual harassment, abscondment from duties, insubordination, falsification of records, disobedience to lawful order and diversion of TETFUND training grant.

The head of the Public Relations and Protocol Unit of the Institution, Uredo Omale disclosed this in a statement earlier today.

Omale said this was the verdict made at the Polytechnic 68th Regular Meeting of the Governing Council held on 8 March.

According to the statement, the dismissed staffs include: Mr. Abutu Thompson Okolo, Department of Language and Communication; Mr. Ipinmoroti Samuel Adejoro, Adegoke Kehinde Vivian, Both of the Department of Architectural Technology; Sylvester Ojone Blessing of Registry Department.

Omale mentioned that Thompson, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Language and Communication, had been dismissed for harassing and victimizing a female student at the Department of Computer Science.

She added that Ipinmoroti Samuel Adejoro and Adegoke Kehinde Vivian, were dismissed for disobedience to lawful order, falsification of documents to obtain a training grant and diversion of the training grant of N22,676,500 and N21,204,000 respectively.

Omale also stated that the Council further directed the Management to use available legal means to recover the funds they fraudulently collected as training grants without undergoing the training at the approved University in Malaysia.

Sylvester Ojone Blessing according to Omale was dismissed for absconding from duty from 5 January, 2020 till 31 July 2022.

Ojone is to refund the sum of N1,356,653.79, being the salaries received from the Government within the period of abscondment.

In a related event, the Polytechnic terminated Mr. Aremu Oloruntoba Samuel’s employment at the School of General and Communication Studies’ Department of Social Science and Humanities due to serious misconduct that bordered on student extortion under the guise of Continuous Assessment (CA).
