The Governor of Lagos State Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Wednesday, donated the sum of N100 million to traders affected by the fire outbreak at Akere Spare Parts Market in the Apapa area of the State on 8 March, 2023.
The Governor, in a Twitter post, also shared photos from the kick off of the rebuilding of the Akere Spare Parts Market.
He warned the people of Lagos to shun division as the governorship and State Assembly elections hold on Saturday.
“Lagos takes care of its own and today I returned to kickoff the redevelopment of the Akere Motor Parts Market in Ajeromi Ifelodun LGA, which was affected by an unfortunate fire incident recently. I also donated N100 million to the affected traders to ease their pains,” the Governor tweeted.
“As we move towards the election this Saturday, we must not allow bigotry be what will divide us. We must watch our utterances and ensure that we are not divisive. It is about the ordinary, everyday people. You own the mandate and it is about you.”
Recall that on 8 March, some shops were razed at the Akere Spare Parts Market, Olodi-Apapa in the Ajegunle area of Lagos State following a fire outbreak.
According to the statement signed by the Director of the Service, Margaret Adeseye, the Service was alerted of the fire outbreak at about 03:28 last Wednesday.
She said the Ajegunle Fire Station upon arrival discovered that rows of shops that traded in auto spare parts were on fire.
This, she said, led the Sari-Iganmu and Ilupeju Fire Crews of the Agency to join the team to subdue the raging fire and salvage a nearby filling station with a fully loaded 33,000 litres PMS tanker, amongst other adjoining buildings.
