LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- An early morning inferno has destroyed 19 shops and a mosque at the Rimi Market in Kano Municipal Local Government Area of Kano State.
Goods worth millions of naira were reportedly damaged by the fire, which reportedly started at around 1.46 am on Wednesday, 8 March.
Saminu Abdullahi, the Kano State Fire Service’s public relations officer, who confirmed the event, said the control center of the service received an emergency call from one Ahmad Tijjani at around 1.46am stating that the market was on fire.
He revealed that the fire was successfully extinguished by firefighters from the Audu Bako Secretariat and Kano Central Fire Station.
He said, “Today, being Wednesday, March 8, 2023, our control room received an emergency call at about 1.46 am from one Ahmad Tijjani, reporting an outbreak of fire at Rimi Market Kano Municipal Area.
“Following the report, firefighters on emergency duty were mobilized from Central and Audu Bako Secretariat Fire Stations.
“They found that about 14 permanent shops, a mosque and five temporary shops were engulfed by fire. The area of the fire is about 75 X 50 ft used as Rimi Market shops,” he said.
According to Abdullahi, the incident did not result in any injuries or fatalities.
He further stated that an investigation had been launched to solve the mystery of the disaster.
