ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Comrade Ngozi Ngene, the Chairperson of Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ), Enugu State Chapter, has charged women to embrace the use of digital innovation and technology to enhance their autonomy and privacy.
According to her, digital education has a transformative part to play in achieving gender equality, which can help them improve access to health services, decision-making, medicines, and increase awareness about women’s rights, including sexual and reproductive health and rights.
She said this in Enugu State on Wednesday, in commemoration of the 8 March International Women’s Day. A global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural, and political achievements of women.
She further urged women to embrace digital technology which will reduce risks of unintended pregnancies, and sexually transmitted infections including HIV and cervical cancer, malnutrition, depression, and respiratory infections, amongst other risks.
Comrade Ngene also described digital technology as a game changer that breaks down barriers to access to knowledge, and bridges the gender divide in access to training, learning, and career-building opportunities for women.
The NAWOJ Chairperson advocates for full inclusion of gender and equity lens in designing digital technology policies and programs, which according to her would help to reduce gender-related health inequities for long-lasting transformative change.
Ngene advised women to keep glowing, forget many factors that affect their positivity, encourage one another, show love to one another and always work as a team to excel in life.
