LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Several buildings in the Oke-Ako community, in Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State, have been demolished by a rainstorm.
Punch reports that the two-hour-plus rainstorm also damaged some of the community’s electrical infrastructure, leaving people in the dark.
In response to the occurrence, the state Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, expressed his condolences to the locals and assured those affected that government support would be provided to lessen the impact of the tragedy on them.
During an assessment of the level of damage done to the town a day after the downpour, Oyebanji, represented by the Deputy Governor, Monisade Afuye, urged residents of the community to embrace tree-planting and assured them that the current administration will support interested people to go into tree planting.
In a statement from the Special Assistant (Media) to the Deputy Governor, Afuye stated that the programs would soon begin in order to protect the environment and reduce the damage caused by rainstorms.
