LAGOS, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Armed bandits have allegedly killed two persons and kidnapped an unknown number of travelers in Tashar Amale, Rafi local government area of Niger State.
It was gathered that the incident occurred on Friday, the eve of the Presidential and National Assembly elections.
The gunmen broke into Tashar Amale, shooting sporadically into the air at some Muslim faithful observing Jumaat prayers in the area.
Several worshipers are alleged to have scrambled for safety as a result of the event, which sent them into a panic.
Also, it was reliably reported that Abubakar Sani Bello, the state Governor, and his convoy were prevented from traveling on Friday to his hometown of Kontagora to vote due to the bandits’ operations.
According to information obtained by voiceofnaija.ng, the bandits set fire to the vehicle carrying the passengers, which included men, women, and children, before robbing them and taking the vehicle off to an unknown destination.
The Niger State Government Secretary, Ahmed Ibrahim Matane, confirmed the occurrence but stated that at the time this report was being filled, the administration had not yet determined the precise number of people the gunmen had actually kidnapped.
