IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Social media platforms in Nigeria are currently buzzing after a video of a man flogging his wife in front of their children went viral on Wednesday.

The video has ignited an outrage online after a man was spotted flogging his wife with a belt as she begged him to stop.

Attempts by the children to intervene by pushing him away from their mother was also to no avail.

The man kept flogging his wife while also saying that she’s “talking while he’s talking” and the woman could be heard pleading with man addressed as “Dayo”.

The video has generated reactions from Nigerians on social media.

A netizen known as The lone ranger said: “If you catch your wife cheating, leave and never look back. Do not forgive. I’m assuming the worse scenario here. Let’s just say you caught her with a man, you have no right to lay a finger on her. Just go. Leave. Walk away.

“His children are seeing these. The male children would now think this is OK. They would grow up physically assaulting their girlfriends and their wives.

“Their own children would grow up seeing this and then the cycle continues. The female children would grow up hating men, thinking all men are animals. This is not a matter of arresting him or taking him to human right authorities. Tie him up and give him a good beating, publicly.

“He beat his wife in the house. Take him to the market square or to a town hall different from balablu and then flog him till he passes out. Afterwards, hand him over to the authorities.. Women, if he hits you once, he will hit you again. Leave that marriage. Stay alive to raise your children or another woman will raise them for you while you are in your grave. Marriage no be by force.”

@chiomaokeke who was also surprised to see how calm the wife was in the midst of the abuse wondered what the problem is with her gender.

She said: “So the wife is keeping calm, allowing this abuser to flog her with his belt as if she’s a stubborn animal. What’s wrong with some of my genders?”

“I hate when videos like this hit the net and because you’re a woman, you’re suddenly expected to support this woman blindly. As far as say, she is being beaten by a man and her kids happen to be right there, I’m “supposed” to deafly and dumbly support everyone calling for his head.

“According to today’s level of normalcy, we women, are not even allowed to ask or to know or to even want to know what led up to this because women supporting women foolishly comes first in every matter without knowing the truth. 🙄 abeg I no fit today. Husband and wife dey get issues.

“The man no suppose beat his wife but nobody knows the kind of wife that woman be abeg. So sorry to all parties especially the kids. Una parents don cast una family for internet people. Everybody go dey alright Las las,” @Abegi who weighed into the matter, also opined.
