ABUJA, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – The Supreme Court has adjourned the lawsuit filed by the Governors against the President Muhammadu Buhari administration on the naira redesign to 3 March.
This was the outcome of the hearing on Wednesday, as 17 States reportedly joined a consolidated suit demanding the prohibition of President Muhammadu Buhari from suddenly implementing the redesign of the national currency.
After hearing from different lawyers, the Supreme Court confirmed that a judgement would be delivered on the matter in March.
This judgment will be coming after Nigeria’s next President must have been decided at the poll on Saturday, 25 February, as Nigerians continue to groan over the lack of access to funds.
Recall that the Supreme Court had earlier ruled that the old notes remained valid as a means of transaction before President Buhari’s broadcast which overturned that ruling.
Nigerians will now have to wait for just over a week to know what fate awaits them with the validity of the old naira notes which many have been unable to swap for new notes.
