A discreet investigation is underway at the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse, following a violent clash that claimed one life.
Five persons were arrested after the clash erupted between supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress in Jigawa State.
The incident happened on Friday, when the PDP was conducting a governorship rally in Maigatari Local Government Area. As they arrived at the APC Secretariat, tensions rose and a clash broke out.
According to a police statement, the victim, Abdullahi Isiyaku, a 37-year-old man, from Gangare Quarters in Maigatari town, was attacked by members of the PDP’s ‘Santuraki Vanguard’.
He was rushed to the Gumel General Hospital for treatment but later died from his injuries.
The Police Public Relations Officer of the Jigawa State Command, DSP Lawan Adam, stated that the situation was under control and the police were working to ensure that the perpetrators would be brought to justice.
The incident has raised concerns about the security of citizens and the potential for further political tensions in the state.
