ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Gunmen have reportedly attacked a checkpoint along the Enugu/Abakaliki expressway, and killed two soldiers.
A police source told EverydayNewsngr.net that the rampaging gunmen first attacked the military checkpoint at Idodo, Enugu State before proceeding to the border checkpoint where they killed three policemen.
This brings to five the number of casualties by the gunmen who stormed the security checkpoints along the Enugu/Abakaliki highway late Saturday evening.
Also, the Police confirmed that the hoodlums who operated with two Sienna buses, opened fire at the Idodo military checkpoint killing two soldiers in the shootout.
After the attack at Idodo, the gunmen proceeded towards Ebonyi and again opened fire on the policemen on duty at the border checkpoint between Enugu and Ebonyi.
It was further gathered that three policemen were killed at the spot while another policeman who was shot on the leg is currently receiving treatment at a hospital in the Ebonyi State Capital.
The report was confirmed by the police in Ebonyi.
