IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – A Nigerian realist identified as Lola Okunrin, has shared some words of encouragement by narrating his own personal experience in school.
He advised people to focus on themselves and not be distracted by life’s pleasures.
He recounted how he performed woefully in his first year in tertiary institution because of PES game.
He wrote: “This life, just focus on yourself.
“Young and naive, I entered FUTA. As a hundred level student, that was my first time experiencing freedom. No one to say “wake up”, no one to say “go and sleep”.
“Freedom on a platter, mio ri iru e ri. As omo boy, i was chopping it…
“In my room, we were about 4 hundred level students but i didn’t make friends with them like that, i chose a 300 level student beside my room as friend. There’s this level of class expected between a 300 level student and a 100 level but this guy showed me love. Ife yii ga oo.
“The love was so much that I was always in his room playing Winning Eleven and PES on his laptop. We will play play play.
“Time for book, NO. Time for PS, Yes yes yes.
“This is my first time playing PS without paying onile 20 Naira per game. Igbadun yi lagbara.
“Any “Up nepa” lasan, mo ti resume.
“Anytime in class, i was already planning my formation for the evening. That 100 level first semester was gbankogbi. I became a pro.
“If there was a course like Playstation Management in FUTA, mo ma gbegba oroke…
“Even though we were also allowing others play, yet we were the ones playing the most. The synergy was huge. Mo ngba yati.
“When his laptop had an issue, i contributed to have it fixed. Anything that will pause my gaming life, Olorun maje.
“The day his game pads spoilt and he didn’t have money to buy another, i went to Alagbaka to get new pads. Imagine having 2 brand new game pads, but i didn’t have a laptop. Aye ma nika o.
“Let’s just say i used the first semester to brush up my gaming techniques. At the end of the semester, to leave this guy alone sef was painful. A brother from another mother.
“Throughout my holiday in Lagos, I just wanted to go back and resume my iranu. Some days into the new semester, our results came out. I failed in flying colours.
“My CGPA was looking like Argentina VS Saudi Arabia score. Ishan meji ti pada cut.
“I remember coming home dejected only to meet my bro passing me the pad like “Bro, bi eshin ba dani, a ma ntun gun ni”
“Take pad and play your sorrow away. As the new oponu in town, i collected pad.
“It was during the game i overheard his discussion. He is a 4 pointer. Very strong 2:1, close to first class. That last semester was one of his best.
“So every midnight after I’m gone to bed after game, bobo will burn candle. He was a reader, brilliant and all.
“Mo ti wo ago alaago shishe. 🙆♀️
“The next day, i picked my life up like oya, we start all over again only to meet this guy on my way to night class coming from night class. He shouted “Ade, na you i dey find come make i con beat you”
“I didn’t know when i whispered “Akoshibero”
“Little by little, i left his shackle but that first semester always tell. Mio le gbagbe Israel lai lai, Olorun lo ma da ejo arin emi ati e. 😡”
