ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Ikechi Emenike, the Abia State governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), says the state has been in mess over the years because those in the leadership position lack discipline.
Emenike said the lack of discipline rubs off on the entire governance structure, attitude to work, and performance of official duties.
A statement made available to journalists quoted the gubernatorial candidate as speaking at his annual family thanksgiving service held at St. John Methodist Church, Umukabia Okpuala, in Umuahia North Local Government of Abia State, on Tuesday.
He promised to enthrone discipline in the governance of the State if elected Governor next year, adding that an APC administration in the State will provide positive development.
Emenike said: “Without discipline, we cannot restore Abia” while promising that he will lead by example and ensure that government functionaries perform their duties in line with laid down rules and regulations.
“Nobody will come to work late because I will not come late. Nobody will delay salary payment because I will not delay it. And nobody will refuse to pay pension because I will not tolerate it,” he added.
On his part, the Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, said the need to rescue Abia was not about Emenike or any other party leader but about the good of the state.
Speaking also, the Minister of State for Science, Technology and Innovation, Henry Ikoh, called for support to ensure Emenike’s victory in the coming governorship election.
“Chief Emenike has positioned himself and his deputy to liberate Abia and we must support them and all APC candidates to emerge victorious in the 2023 general election,” he said.
Rev. Obinna Agbo, who delivered a sermon at the event, encouraged people to cultivate the habit of engaging in thanksgiving in whatever circumstances.
