IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Doyin Okupe, the Director-General of the Peter Obi Campaign Organization, has thrown shades at his enemies following his jail sentence on Monday, 19 December, 2022.
Okupe was sentenced to two years imprisonment for receiving over N200 million cash from former National Security Adviser (NSA) Col. Sambo Dasuki.
Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu, of the Federal High Court, Abuja, while delivering judgement on Monday, held that the action of Okupe, violated the Money Laundering Act.
Okupe was found guilty on counts 34 to 59 of the charges filed by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The court sentenced Okupe, to two years imprisonment on count 34 with an option of a fine of N500,000.
Reacting to the court judgment, Okupe via Twitter blamed his enemies and appreciate God for not being a man.
He wrote: “God is not man. The enemies have tried in so many ways but kept on failing.. Victory is of God.”
His tweet has generated reactions from Nigerians who demanded he steps down as the DG of Peter Obi’s presidential campaign.

@naijayouthfront wrote: “Mr Okupe at this point & with an existing conviction,it is only right that you step aside. We can’t allow an individual taint the credibility of the movement meant to salvage the collapse of Nigeria. As difficult as it might be,do the honourable thing. Thank you for your service!”
Another Nigerian, @_MUSHEEN_wanted to know if he was tweeting from prison.

@OluwafeemiAdeeyo on his part said: “The 2 year is too small …. 700m plus no be joke.”
“Do the honourable thing, step down as the DG, go to court and defend yourself. That’s the Nigeria we’re fighting for; A Nigeria where politicians step down if they become inefficient or entangled in corruption cases,” @LovedayOjinuka wrote.
