ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Governor Hope Uzodinma of Imo State has commended the Nigerian Police and other security agencies on their efforts in foiling the attack at the office of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Owerri, the State capital.
Uzodinma made the commendation while addressing journalists at the Nigerian Police Force Command, Owerri.
Voiceofnaija.ng had reported that gunmen attacked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Headquarters in Imo State, early Monday morning.
However, the hoodlums were reportedly repelled by the security agents with the help of local vigilante.
While three of the hoodlums were said to have been killed, one of them was captured alive.
Reacting, Governor Uzodimma reiterated that he will provide a safe environment for Ndi Imo to exercise their right in voting.
Disclosing that investigations are ongoing, the Governor urged the Police authority and other sister agencies to be swift and prudent in unravelling details behind this attack.
In a related development, Uzodinma commend the joint security team in the State for their prompt response and success in rescuing the Craneburge Staff who were abducted from the construction site, along the Owerri-Okigwe road, on 9 December 2022.
He said that Imolites want to progress, adding that his administration is committed to moving Imo State forward
“The contractors are working for the good of everyone and the list expected of all is hospitality and not hostility,” Governor Uzodinma said.
He further reassured Ndi Imo that the security network and intelligence across the State have been beefed up to guarantee the safety of Ndi Imo throughout this season and beyond.
