Cristiano Ronaldo is trending on Twitter after the former Manchester United striker, was slapped with a fine of £50,000 and given a two-match ban by the football association in England.
The ban is coming following an incident that occurred in April when Ronaldo smashed a fan’s phone at Goodison Park after Man United lost to Everton last season.
This comes just a day after it was announced that the five-time Ballon d’Or winner had his contract with United terminated by mutual agreement following his explosive interview with Piers Morgan about the management of the club and the manager, Erik ten Hag.
Ronaldo said the club had remained stagnant since Sir Alex Ferguson left back in 2013, adding that there was no growth whatsoever.
He also said he had no respect for Ten Hag because the manager had no respect for him.
Also the owners of Man United, the Glazers, announced on Tuesday evening, that they were putting the club up for sale and would be listening to offers.
According to The Mirror UK, the ban means that Ronaldo would be suspended for two games if he joins another Premier League club, with Chelsea and Newcastle both linked with a move for the 37-year-old.
The latest has garnered reactions from his fans and football lovers on Twitter.
A tweep, Dean, said: “They’re trying there hardest to unsettled Ronaldo before he kicks off with Portugal, fair play to him not attending the press conference, so the media can heckle him with Questions over he’s exit from man utd.”
@DebraFacebook blasted the FA for banning Portugal’s star player for two matches. The tweep said: “Two games? That’s like half the World Cup. Hopefully he’s back in time for the finals. WC just isn’t the same without the GOAT”
“He’s playing for Portugal! the FA can only ban him for games played as a premier league player not as a Player in his own country’s squad. So makes no difference anyway… just the FA on a power trip,” another tweep, @ageasaber corrected @DebraFacebook.
@adv_meli wondered how and when the ban will take effect when he is no longer in Premier League.
“Now that he is no longer a premier league player which means he is no longer under FA Will he still pay?”
James Nutall replied @adv_meli: “No when he has to go through international clearance etc his ban will transfer. Like when joey Barton went Marseille.”
@chelskifclub58 tweeted: “the FA Coining it in again on someone’s downfall …Manchester United should of been fined for not releasing him in the summer window 🤷♂️🤷♂️ he shouldn’t have to sit there rotting on the bench if they’re not going to play him …come to the Bridge @Cristiano we’ll look after you ⚽️💙”
@BOLADAYO also weighed in: “I don’t know when it’ll be obvious to all his supporters that despite his massive talent he has an attitude problem. Gifts will take you up the ladder of success, bad attitude will bring you down. Ask Auba. Period!”
His comment didn’t sit well with another tweep, Godfather who tweeted: “Oshe ladder holder. Go and face our own life.”
Ronaldo is presently in Qatar preparing for Portugal’s World Cup opening match against Ghana on Thursday.
