ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Rivers State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of two suspects for allegedly leading a mob to brutalize a lady, Ruth Tamuno, in the Port Harcourt area of the State.
The suspects, Samuel Matthew, and Emmanuel Iweruma, accused Tamuno of stealing an iPhone in Aggrey Estate Waterfront, Port Harcourt.
It was gathered that during the mob action on Tamuno, a yet-to-be-identified substance was inserted in her private parts.
It was gathered that the owner of the iPhone, upon realizing that his phone was missing, raised the alarm which attracted youths in the area to attack the victim.
Reacting to the development, the state Commissioner of Police, Okon Effiong, condemned the action of the youths in the community.
In a statement by the state Police Public Relations Officer, Grace Iringe-Koko, Effiong confirmed the arrest of the two suspects.
The statement read: “The state Commissioner of Police, Okon Effiong, has condemned in its entirety, the mob action on one Ruth Tamuno on November 14, 2022.
“Some group of boys, numbering about six, led by one Samuel Matthew, 23, beat her up and inserted a substance in her private part, for allegedly stealing an iPhone. This is barbaric and inhuman.
“The CP has ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department to conduct a discreet investigation on Samuel Matthew, 23, and Emmanuel Iweruma, 23, who were arrested in connection with the case. Efforts are on to arrest other fleeing suspects.”
