IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – The Yeye Bewaji of Itori, Abike Jagaban, has issued out a personal statement to the general public following uproar for stepping out in style with the staff of Ooni of Ile-Ife, HRH Enitan Ogunwusi, over the weekend.
Abike Jagaban, who had been alleged to be intimately close to the Ooni of Ife, was seen at her grandmother’s funeral reception in Lagos where she was escorted by the Ooni of Ife’s staff of office.
At the reception, the Ooni of Ife’s staff escorted Yeye Bewaji of Itori land as she strolled in.
The staff held by a palace guard, was seen following her everywhere.
Well, this could have slipped without mention from some guests but lately, the staff of the office of the Ooni of Ife has been present at five weddings of his queens without the monarch’s presence.
But the beautiful blogger seemed not bothered and went about the party with the staff of the office carried by an escort.
“The staff of the office of the king represents him and could be at anyone’s party as long as it’s the king’s emissary carrying it. It’s a mark of honour and Abike is no stranger to the palace. If the king or anyone from Ile Ife couldn’t attend the party physically, the staff of the office would honour the invite. Nobody should place any unusual meaning to the office staff at Abike Jagaban’s party,” palace sources revealed to Kemi Ashefon.
This had caused uproar on social media as many slammed the monarch for not respecting his staff while others described her as the next queen of Ife.
In what seems to be a reaction to the controversy, Abike sent a message to the public.
She stated that she wants to be addressed as her parents christened her and not with any Instagram-imposed title of a Queen in waiting.
She, however, stated that the name and title is subject to change, but that will be in future.
