IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Prophet Jeremiah Fufeyin, the pastor-in-charge of Christ MercyLand Deliverance Ministry worship centre in Effurun, Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta state, has established an Internally Displaced Persons camp for flood victims inside the church compound.

It was gathered that the IDP victims were drawn from different flood-ravaged communities in Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Kogi, Anambra and Imo States, among others, who had been temporarily dislodged from their respective homes.

It was further gathered that the cleric also donated a sum of N5 million for the upkeep of the flood victims during their stay at the IDP camp.

Speaking with journalists at the church premises turned IDP camp, Fufeyin vowed to continue catering to the needs of the flood victims until the flood recedes in their various home communities.

He noted that he decided to provide succour for the flood victims because of his promise to God Almighty.

He said: “I promised God that if He blesses me, I will also remember the children of God. Those who are in need. So, what makes me now go for this rescue is because of love. Because the Bible says you have to love one another. Love your neighbour as yourself.

“So, when they are in trouble, we have to feel for them. The Bible says, when he’s in prison, nobody visited. When he’s on sick bed, nobody visited him. So, today, I am here to try my best to come to their aid.”

The cleric explained that the humanitarian gesture was being provided courtesy of Jeremiah Omoto Funfeyin Rescue Team, an arm of the Jeremiah Omoto Funfeyin Foundation.

“We don’t ask for help from anywhere here. But the Foundation is ready. That’s what God sent me to do. So, I am ready to now take care of them until the flood dries up,” he added.

While noting that it is the government’s responsibility to ensure the protection of lives and properties, Prophet Fufeyin called on Christian clerics across the country to assist the Federal and State Governments in critical times such as this, saying that the government could not do it alone.

“Governments have tried their best possible for its citizens. So, we also need to now come to their aid. That’s what we are trying to do right now,” he said.

It was jubilation among the flood victims when the cleric arrived at the IDP Camp to have fellowship and dinner with them on Thursday evening as they danced joyfully amidst entertainment by the church choristers, games and a local wrestling competition, among others.

Some of the flood victims, Joy Reuben from Kogi State and Enegarenbenabo Tei from Bayelsa State, thanked Prophet Fufeyin for the kind gesture of keeping them at the IDP camp with the provision of basic needs and cash donations.
