ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Ugwor Samuel, a Police Inspector attached to Abia Assembly member, Ginger Onwusibe, has been shot dead in Umuahia, the State capital.

It was gathered that Samuel was shot dead by his fellow policeman, Inspector Atule Benedict who is also attached to the same Assembly member, Onwusibe.

According to an eyewitness, there was altercation between the two policemen during which Inspector Atule shot the deceased Inspector.

The source said that efforts to disarm him by other policemen in their team failed as he reportedly became very violent, threatening to kill more policemen.

Benedict was later said to have escaped to an unknown destination with his AK-47 riffle, after killing his fellow policeman.

The suspect has since handed himself over to SCIID Umahia, where he was detained.

Investigation has already begun into the incident, while remains of the deceased Inspector has been deposited at the FMC Umahia mortuary.
