ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), in Enugu State, Mr. Frank Nweke Jr has revealed his plans to restructure the state and make portable water accessible to all residents.
He regretted that under the administration of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), there is persistent water crisis, saying that the situation has deteriorated.
Speaking on his core mandate in reigniting the coal city, the former Minister spoke on seven key thrusts for the state, this is as he laid emphasis on water scarcity and promised to bring best leadership needed in that sector for constant water supply.
The core mandate of his manifesto include: good governance, security, human capital development, economic transformation, environmental sustainability & infrastructure, technology & innovation, and leadership.
Speaking on water crisis, Nweke vowed that in the first 12 months of his government, water will flow in Enugu, adding that water is life.
He stated this during the unveiling of his manifesto for Ndi Enugu, held in Enugu State on Saturday 15 October, 2022, ahead the 2023
He said: “I am prepared. Water is everything, it is very important. I want to assure you that within the first 12 months of my government, water will flow in Enugu.
“From the two water sources in Enugu, Oji River and Ajali River, I will ensure I reform the water sector such that the three arms in the water supply; production, transmission and distribution, will not be handled by one particular person.
“The water board will be the regulator. Their work is to ensure that the three arms does not exploit the people. Their job is just to focus on regulatory.”
On funding and implementing his plan, the APGA governorship flag bearer assured that he will cut waste in the government to ensure the resources of the people are properly utilized.
He disclosed that he will employ accountability, and also digitalize every transactions made.
Recalling all the achievements of late Michael Iheonukara Okpara, the then Premier of Eastern Nigeria during the First Republic, from 1959 to 1966, Nweke said he (Okpara) is his icon, role model and hero.
He promised to ride on the heels of Okpara, to lead a government that models citizens, saying that citizens are the only reason government exists.
