IBADAN, Nigerian (VOICE OF NAIJA) – #NigerianNavy is trending on Twitter following the interception of an illegal vessel loaded with crude oil by security outfit of former militant leader, Government Ekpemupolo aka Tompolo.
According to a report by Gbaramatu Voice News on Sunday, the crude oil tanker, was loaded with an unspecified quantity of crude oil at the Escravos River in Warri South West Local Government Area of Delta State, when it was intercepted on Thursday.
Tompolo’s security outfit was recently awarded a pipeline surveillance contract to curb crude oil theft in the Niger Delta.
Nigerians have since taken to Twitter to drag the Nigerian Navy over inability to intercept the illegal oil vessel.
A tweep, Emaenim Udoh wrote: “political misbehaviour everywhere. Tompolo found this loading oil
no name no number no contact. Navy boss still working, everyones job still intact. Peter Obi could u pls pinch the news again”
@DrOlusesan said: “Oil theft discoveries being reported recently are results of newly acquired capacity of the Nigerian Navy and NNPC’s satellite monitoring of custody transfer and tracking of shipment, made possible by Buhari, which many you all hate to acknowledge, especially d wereys at d back.”
Reacting to the news, @JajaPhD queried the duties of the Nigerian Navy. He said: “So, what exactly does the Nigerian Navy do?”
Richard Chilee replied @JajaPhD: “Wear white starched uniforms, with matching shoes and look neat. Don’t stress them, please.”
@Veevaycioud also replied @JajaPhD: “Wear uniform and snap by their boat⛵”
@efecamilus also weighed in on the report: “How can the security outfit of Tompolo become more effective than the Nigerian Navy in curbing oil theft. Have we lost the mettle to secure this country and public facilities? This is terrible.”
@Benzynno replied @efecamilus: “Isn’t it obvious that the Nigerian navy is complicit ?”
@efecamilus added: “Evidently complicit to a large extent. The security outfit of an individual cannot be more sophisticated than the Nigerian Navy that have undergone training on counterinsurgency and surveillance. Heads should roll if we are serious in this country.”
