ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The Rivers State House of Assembly says it has ceased to recognize Celestine Omehia as a former Governor of the state.
The lawmakers passed the motion during a sitting on Thursday, 6 October, 2022.
Following this, the lawmakers asked Omehia to refund all monetary entitlement he received as a Governor, as benefits amounting to N600 million within seven days.
Omehia is also expected to return about N96.5 million he received as a pension.
Also, he will cease to be addressed as His Excellency.
Recall that Omehia, six months after he was declared winner of the Rivers State governorship election, was removed in 2007 by the Supreme Court.
The court subsequently ordered that former Governor Rotimi Amaechi be sworn in as Governor.
However, when Governor Nyesom Wike came on board in 2015, Omehia was recognized as Governor.
Omehia, however, has recently fallen out with Wike over his support for the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Atiku Abubakar.
