IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – A video of Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, known better as Mohbad, decked in a white singlet with bruises on his back, neck, and hand, has sent the internet agog.
On Wednesday, Mohbad alleged that he was assaulted by his management team after he demanded a change of manager.
The musician is signed under Marlian Records owned by fellow Nigerian artist Naira Marley.
Sharing a video of himself on his Twitter handle, Mohbad claimed he was assaulted by his management team at the Marlian House.
“Just because I want to change my manager which is their brother, see what they did to me at Marlian House,” he wrote.
“I’m not high oo cos that what Dey always say just to die down everything,” he added.
The singer then said: “World pls help me oo I’m dying inside”.
Shortly after the video went viral, Naira Marley reacted to the allegations in an Instagram live video.
Naira Marley described the incident as a “family affair”, and alleged that Mohbad was probably “high” (drunk) when making the allegation.
He said: “If Mohbad didn’t do a video on that, I wouldn’t even bother explaining because it is not something big, it’s a family issue.
“Obviously, he (Mohbad) is not in his right sense. It is obvious he is not in the right state of mind. Because why will I touch Mohbad or allow anyone to touch Mohbad?
“I don’t even know how to explain it but obviously, in the group chat, he said he wants to change his manager probably because he (Mohbad) and his manager are having some argument but the manager is not my brother and I don’t know what he (Mohbad) is probably saying. But, obviously, he’s probably high.
“But when he’s back in his right sense, he will explain himself and apologise as usual.”
Also on his Twitter handle, Naira Marley wrote: “Mohbad has a history of getting intoxicated which affects his emotions and actions. #ImNotPerfect. However, all issues would be resolved amicably within the record label.”
In a new development, Mohbad has taken to Twitter to deny Naira Marley’s claim that he was intoxicated.
He tweeted: “I’m not intoxicated but I’ve just been diagnosed as an emergency hypertensive patient.
“I’m not on drugs or drinks and my life is at stake. I’m still getting threats.”
His latest tweet has sparked reactions from Nigerians on Twitter.
Popular tweep, Daniel Regha said: “Mohbad tell the public what really happened, explain in details so everyone defending u can know; Meanwhile get a good lawyer who can help u terminate ur contract with Marlian Music, then sue everyone who assaulted afterwards. Marley is trying to reach out but d¤n’t make amends.”
Michael Townes stated: “Cause moh no loyal. He should stay loyal to people that made him.”
Another tweep, Maven Empire agreed with Townes comment and said: “God bless you for this statement. Before Naira become who he is, he no suffer am. They want to enjoy but forgetting the loyalty. If e easy, make e go Dey sing himself nah. If you want to be under someone, be ready to be a loyal person. Shikenna.”
