ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – As part of its local right partnership programme, the South Saharan Social Development Organisation (SSDO), has donated 30 pieces of 4-seater pupils’ desk to three local government areas of Enugu State.
The programme was funded by Actionaid Nigeria.
Speaking while handing over the seats to the community, the head of programme, SSDO Mr. Udochukwu Egwim, explain that his organization donated 10 seats each to the communities in Aninri, Isi-Uzo and Uzo Uwani LGA.
Mr. Egwim further explain that Local Rights partnership (LRP) stands to ensure that the rural community people who were educated and sensitized, to be able to demand for their rights from the angle of human right approach, will maintain the teachings.
He disclosed that the project will last for five to seven years, stressing that this presentation is the first activity.
He promised that they will come back with some other things which would include women in education, capacity building for men and sensitisation rallies.
On her part, the Programme Lead of local rights partnership programme of Actionaid Perpetual Njoku, said that they are interested in the poor and marginalizzed community including places where government has not gone for a campaign, like in Oduma Acharya, Aninri local government area.
She said: “In the choice of communities, we started with so many activities like interacting with children or knowing their best food and how they are faring and we took the information back to Actionaid, the implementing partner and they choose Oduma community.”
She also said they are working in nine communities in Oduma Achara, which include Ameke, Amagu, Ohafia Oduma Achara; In Isi- Uzo, they work in Ihenyi, Abor Isiala and Orokoro, In Uzo uwani, they have Igga community and Nkume.
Also in their separate contributions, the Headmaster Mr. Akpa Mark and the Headmistress Mrs. Onyia Rebecca, of the community primary school Oduma Acharya, commended the donors and pray God to reward them as they remembered their community.
According to them, “before now our children were sitting on the ground with their writing materials on their laps.”
The representative of the local government Chairman, Mrs. Amos Orij who is also the Deputy leader of Aninri legislative Council, received the desk on behalf of the state government from the donor.
Orij commended the donor for coming to assist the community. He said that the God of these little children who are leaders of tomorrow will continue to bless them.
