IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced salary increment for workers in the state’s civil service.
Sanwo-Olu made this known on Tuesday while addressing the workers at the state secretariat, Alausa, Ikeja.
The announcement is coming less than a few months before the 2023 general election.
He said he has given approval for the commencement of the process to increase salaries of workers.
The Governor said he understands that the high inflation in the country may have affected the purchasing power of workers.
He added that Lagos State will not wait for the federal government before it improves the well-being of workers.
Sanwo-Olu who supports Bola Tinubu, the presidential candidate of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and former Governor of the State, also said his administration is proactive to the yearnings of civil servants.
“I have looked around and I know that as a country, there is pressure,” he said.
“I know that, as a country, there is a high level of inflation.
“At our cabinet meeting, I instructed the head of service office and the ministry of staff, training, and pensions to start work on how we are going to increase the entire salary of our public servants.”
