Jeff Bezos’ ex-wife, MacKenzie Scott and her husband, Dan Jewett, a former science teacher, are going their separate ways less than two years after getting married.
She reportedly met Dan through a Seattle school that her four children attended, where he worked as a science teacher, according to The Washington Post and they tied the knot in 2021.
MacKenzie, who was previously married to Bezos before tying the knot with Dan in 2021, filed for divorce from Dan on 26 September, per court documents obtained by E! News on 28 September.
According to the documents, the pair shared a written separation contract which MacKenzie is asking the court to uphold in their split.
The separation contract will be used to divide their possessions, property, assets and debts.
As for Dan, the court documents showed that he signed on 19 September to agree with MacKenzie’s petition.
MacKenzie was named the fourth richest woman in the world by Forbes in April, with her net worth reported at $43.6 billion at the time.
In 2021, McKenzie Scott and Dan Jewett announced their marriage through a message on their webpage for the Giving Pledge, a philanthropic organization which encourages the world’s richest people to give away a majority of their wealth to charitable causes.
Scott has given away billions of dollars as part of a plan to donate a majority of her fortune.
“I am married to one of the most generous and kind people I know — and joining her in a commitment to pass on an enormous financial wealth to serve others,” Jewett wrote in his message on Giving Pledge in 2021.
“I look forward to the growth and learning I have ahead as a part of this undertaking with MacKenzie.”
But Jewett’s message seemed to have disappeared from the Giving Pledge site and his name was recently edited out of a Medium post Ms. Scott had written last year about their gifts, The Times reported Wednesday, 28 September.
In January 2019, Jeff Bezos and MacKenzie released a joint statement in which they shared that “after a long period of loving exploration and trial separation, we have decided to divorce and continue our shared lives as friends.”
Hours after the pair had broken the news of their split, multiple outlets reported that Jeff Bezos had allegedly been secretly dating former Good Day L.A. co-host Lauren Sanchez.
It was nearly four months later, in April 2019, that Jeff and MacKenzie took to Twitter to announce that they had finalized their divorce.
And just one day later, Lauren and her then-husband Patrick Whitesell filed papers to officially end their marriage, which was settled in October.
