IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA) – A Nigerian architect and data analyst, Abdulquadri Adesoji Ademakinwa has shared his success story seven years after leaving the country to further his studies.
A Nigerian architect and data analyst, Abdulquadri Adesoji Ademakinwa has shared his success story seven years after leaving the country to further his studies.
Ademakinwa shared the story on Monday via Twitter at the University of Nottingham in the UK.
He tweeted: “Exactly 7 years ago, I left family and friends in pursuit of a Master of Architecture Degree in Environmental Design at the University of Nottingham in the UK on Developing Solutions Scholarship.
“As the last child of the family, I’ve never travelled far away from home so on arrival at Heathrow airport, the reality that I was all alone set in and I would have to look after myself and achieve academic excellence.
“I quickly adapted to the UK weather and academic settings. With set goals and articulated plans; I bagged Distinction and top the class of MArch Environmental Design.
“I was the UK National winner of the Isover competition and I represented the United Kingdom at the 12th edition of the international competition in Belarus. Additionally, I received @UoNArchitecture sustainability prize at the Department end-of-the-year show.
“I was privileged to have taught Revit Architecture and Sefaira as a teaching assistant in one of the undergraduate courses of @UoNArchitecture on environmental analysis.
“I was also involved in extracurricular activity and served as the Vice President of the University of Nottingham Nigeria Students’ Society 2015/2016 as well as Open day University Student ambassador.
“I acquired enormous knowledge and skills within the 1year program, all thanks to the opportunity to have being under-tutelage of Professor Lucelia @luceliataranto one of the world’s leading experts in the field of sustainability and energy resilience.
“Emeritus Prof. Brian Ford, the world’s leading expert on Natural Ventilation and Benson Lau, environmental design and daylighting expert.
“The qualification and skills acquired from UON have made me unique as an architectural & sustainability designer and opened many doors of opportunities for me.
“The network of world-leading experts and professionals has positively impacted my career.
“The key thing that I’ve learnt over the years is to TRUST the PROCESS and with smart measurable goals and articulated action plans, the impossible is POSSIBLE!
“My journey to the UK 7 years ago was truly #meanttobe.”
