Chinese national, Geng Quanrong, who was arrested for the murder of his Nigerian lover, Ummukulsum Sani Buhari has been ordered by a Magistrate’s court in Kano on Wednesday, to be remanded in jail.
Geng killed the 23-year-old woman last Friday, September 16, in her home in Kabuga Quarters, Dorayi Babba area of Kano State.
He reportedly confessed to the crime after he was arrested by the police in Kano.
The 47-year-old, said he killed Ummi because she promised to marry him but later reneged on that promise after he had spent so much money on her.
The order of the court followed the arraignment of the accused person before the court by the police on the charge of culpable homicide contrary to section 221 of the penal code.
However, the Magistrate, Hanif Sanusi Ciroma, held that the court lacked the jurisdiction to entertain the case.
The prosecution counsel, Khalifa Auwal Hashim, thereafter appealed to the Court to return the accused to a custodial facility since it had no jurisdiction pending the legal advice from the Kano State ministry of justice.
In granting the appeal, the magistrate ruled that the accused person be remanded at the custodial facility till 13 October, 2022, for arraignment before a court with jurisdiction.
