IBADAN, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Tobi Amusan avenged her last month’s defeat in Lausanne by beating Olympic champion, Jasmine Camacho-Quinn on Thursday in Zurich.
The 25-year-old had in August, won the gold medal in the women’s 100m hurdles at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.
This was after she had, at the World Athletic Championship, broken the hurdles record in the semi-finals in 12.12s.
Amusan is the the first Nigerian to win a gold medal at the championship with her wind speed display in Eugene, Oregon.
She also defended her African championships title with a 12.57s.
The Nigerian sprinter again proved she is the queen of 100 metres hurdles after running 12.29 seconds to win the final of Diamond League which held on Thursday evening in Zurich, Switzerland.
Kendra Harrison of the United States and Britany Anderson of Jamaica finished second and third, respectively, behind the champion.
It was not the kind of outcome, Olympic champion Jasmine Camacho-Quinn would have hoped for, finishing a distant 4th in 12.49s.
For Amusan’s winning time of 12.29s, it is the second fastest legal time she has ever run in her career, further buttressing that her World Record of 12.12s at the World Championships was in no way a fluke.
“I am all right, just thanks to God. I am just so thankful for all the season, I am full of emotions,” Amusan said.
She continued: “While you are running against a very strong field, the only thing you really want is to win, no matter the meeting record. You are just a part of it, you just wanted to win.
“Everyone has doubted me, I just had to prove to myself that I have got it.
“In summary, I am just grateful. The start is still the weakest part of my race. I have still something to improve.
