IBADAN, NIGERIA (VOICE Of NAIJA)- Adegboyega Lawal, the husband of Nigerian actress, Lizzy Anjorin, has filed a lawsuit against his estranged wife, Folashade Olalude and the police.

Lawal and Olalude tied the knot in 2017 and the union was blessed with two children before their controversial split.

He filed the fundamental rights enforcement suit marked FHC/L/CS/1488/22 against her at the federal high court sitting in Lagos on Monday.

The suit has the Assistant Inspector-General of police, zone 2, Onikan, Lagos; its officer-in-charge of the monitoring unit; as well as Tina, a policewoman also with zone 2 as defendants.

In the suit, filed by M. B. Bello, his lawyer, Lawal accused his estranged wife of “continuous harassment, humiliation, spreading of falsehood”.

He also faulted the police for allegedly allowing such to happen.

Lawal asked the court for “A declaration that the continuous harassment, humiliation, spreading of falsehood, and abuse on social media against him and his family by his estranged wife, is vindictive.”

He also demanded “An order of injunction restraining the second and third respondents, whether by themselves, their officers, agents, servants, privies or acting through any person or persons howsoever from further harassing, humiliating, embarrassing and threatening to detain the applicant based on the false and unfounded allegations from the first respondent”.

In the suit, Lawal demanded six million naira as “aggravated and exemplary damages” for his claims against his ex-wife and the police.

“A sum of N5 milion and N1 million against his ex-wife and the police, respectively, on the footing of aggravated and exemplary damages for continuous harassment humiliation, spreading of falsehood, and abuse-on social media against him and his family,” he wrote.

“For the footing of aggravated and exemplary damages for his continuous invitation, harassment, intimidation and humiliation by the second to fourth respondents at the instance of the first respondent.”

But in a counter affidavit, Olalude, who is the first respondent in the suit, denied all the allegations against her.

In the counter affidavit filed by Wahab Shittu, her lawyer, Olalude asked the court to dismiss Lawal’s suit.

She also alleged the suit against her and the police was aimed at truncating the ongoing investigation against Lawal.

Olalude said she was married to Lawal.

She alleged that he suddenly abandoned her and their children in 2020 without any concrete reason.

She also claimed that since then, he has failed to fulfill his marital obligations and responsibilities, including paying the house rent, children’s school fees, and maintenance allowances for the children.

Olalude further alleged that when she caught wind of his affair with Anjorin, the pair launched “unjustified attacks” against her and her children on social media.

This, according to her, prompted some human rights activists and bloggers, to rise in her defence.

The court has fixed September 7 for the hearing of Lawal’s suit against her.
