Corruption: ICPC Trains Ministries, Departments Agencies On Ethics, Integrity

Enugu, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has sensitized members of Anti-Corruption and Transparency Units (ACTUs) of MDAs in Ministries, Departments and Agencies, (MDAs) on ethics and integrity in fighting corruption.

The training which is centered on National Ethics and Integrity Policy (NEIP), Constituency/ Executive project Tracking Initiative (CEPTI) and Integrity Policy (NEIP), is the fifth in the series for 2022.

The ACTUs established in 2001 by the ICPC, with support of the Head of Service of the Federation, focuses on monitoring official and private transactions among officials of the MDAs and how they relate with external clients, ensure that they confirm with highest standards of integrity.

In his opening remarks, the Chairman ICPC, Prof. Bolaji Owasanoye noted that the ACTUS remains a vibrant tool of diminishing corruption in the public service of Nigeria, especially at the Federal level.

He expressed optimism that with a better and equipped ACTUs, ready and willing to deliver on their mandates, the public service would be better for all.

He stated this at the two day capacity building workshop and zonal consultative forum for ACTU executives from the South-East Zone, held on Wednesday in Enugu.

Owasanoye who was represented by ICPC Board Member, Senator Anthony Agbo said the training is organised to continually build the capacity of ACTUs to enable them achieve the mandate for which they were established.

The training is focused on equipping the ACTU executives with the basic knowledge of the national ethics and integrity policy and also, how they can contribute towards promoting the seven core values contained in the policy at their various ministries, Departments and Agencies.

Also, it is focused on restoring transparency, probity and citizens ownership of public projects funded from public funds as duly appropriated.

The ICPC boss therefore urged the participants to step up their efforts at ensuring a corruption free public service by supporting the initiatives and structures.

On his part, Agbo appealed to the members of the ACTU to carry out their duties report every corruption with all diligence and without fear or favour, to the survival and growth of Nigeria.

He said, “You are securing Nigeria. You are not accountable to your states but to Nigeria and your job is to be very sensitive to all around you. You are the eyes of ICPC.”
