LAGOS, Nigeria. (VOICE OF NAIJA) – Tobi Amusan and Ese Brume are among the top Nigerian athletes at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham expected to deliver gold.
Amusan, the world record holder in the Women’s 100m Hurdles is in the finals of the race and tipped to win gold after her record shattering feat in Oregon a few weeks ago.
Also in contention for a gold medal silverware is Ese Brume, Nigeria’s long jump sensation who remains the first African to win two long jump medals at the World Championships. She is in the finals of the long jump event, alongside Ruth Usoro.
Another Nigerian expected to deliver a medal today is Chinecherem Nnamdi, who is in the final of the Men’s Javelin Throw scheduled for later today.
Apart from these individuals, Team Nigeria also boasts of Women and Men’s 4×100 Relay and 4×100 Relay finalists.
Elizabeth Osoba and Tajudeen Agunbiade are both in the featherweight boxing final event, which automatically guarantees Nigeria a minimum of silver medal at the event.
As at the time of filing this report, Team Nigeria was sixth on the medals’ table and the leading African nation on the medals table.
Nigerians will stay glued to their televisions from 10:25am, when Amusan will be running in the 100m Hurdles ahead of the other events slated for Sunday, 7 August, 2022.
