ENUGU, Nigeria (VOICE OF NAIJA)- The All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives Candidate for Enugu East/Isi Uzo Federal Constituency, Ejike Okolo on Wednesday, vowed to empower youths within the constituency, when elected come 2023.
Speaking with newsmen in Enugu, Okolo said that the rate of youths idleness and restiveness in the constituency would be drastically reduce if they are gainfully engaged.
He said that if elected, he would engage in “aggressive youths’ empowerment” to change the tide and narrative of massive youths unemployment in the area.
“I will lead an advocacy to the various youths’ groups and organizations within the constituency to reorient them on the need to be hard working and find something useful to do.
“After the advocacy, I will start skill acquisition programme for those willing to learn a trade as well as educational support scheme for those wishing to go back to school.
“I will also exploit various empowerment programmes at the Federal Government and international levels and bring them back home to the benefit of my people.
“I sincere believe that the empowerment will lead to enduring peace in the constituency that will allow sustainable development to thrive in the area,” he said.
He also lamented poor development of the area due to lack of state and Federal Governments presence in terms of people-oriented projects.
The APC candidate also promised to attract people-oriented institutions and projects that would further develop vast the majority of the area that is still rural by nature.
He said: “For now, most areas of the constituency lack good roads to allow peasants evacuate their farm produce to the market and increase their economic gain.
